The net-print/cups package doesn't have/use USE=ppds anymore.
So, what package and USE flag combination are we supposed to actually use, now that USE=ppds is not valid for that package and/or does nothing.

- I don't think it is necessary any longer. However, if support for a certain printer is not included in the base CUPS package, then you'll need to install it. net-print/foomatic-db-ppds for example. --Grknight (talk) 20:30, 8 November 2018 (UTC)
Network browsing on Windows clients
Since deprecation of SMB1, Microsoft is using WAS Web Services for Devices to browseand detect SMB shares. This means that a Samba server will no longer show up in Network neighborhood. Note that it is still possible to connect to shares by inputting the path directly. It is just automatic discovery that is not supported
There are currently no WSD ebuilds in Gentoo. I've tested a Python implementation theft works good. Should we add this to the Guide? I assume that many users are facing this issue.

IPP Everywhere?
This article is telling to use cups with printer drivers. CUPS upstream says »CUPS printer drivers and backends are deprecated and will no longer be supported in a future feature release of CUPS.« At least networked printers should be able to use driverless printing. Does samba have problems with IPP everywhere?
