Welcome to the Gentoo Wiki!

Larry the cow welcomes you to the Gentoo Wiki.

 Available documentation

To find information use the search box on the top right corner of the screen, or categorically browse the wiki using the Documentation topic links provided below.

Both official Gentoo project documentation as well as community-contributed contents can be found on the wiki. Official documents have a Project: prefix; while you cannot edit them unless you are a developer, please feel free to leave comments on their respective Discussion pages.

Find something you would like to add or edit? The Getting started section (below) gives contributors a few pointers on how to start editing articles.

Most importantly the Gentoo Handbook as well as featured, well-written documents can be found here:

Documentation topics

February 27, 2016: Embedded Handbook

As of today, all parts of the Gentoo Embedded Handbook have been migrated to the wiki. Feel free to add new embedded boards (such as Pine64 and the Raspberry Pi Zero) using the Embedded article blueprint.

January 31, 2016: USEflag template update

The {{USEflag}} template has been updated from using static tables to use the newly implemented packages.g.o API. This enables the USE flag sections of articles to dynamically load updates as the Portage tree evolves. Contributors can learn more of the details by reading the latest template migration article.

January 05, 2016: Happy New Year!

Happy new year and a warm winter greeting from the wiki team! We're excited to see what changes will happen to Gentoo over the course of 2016! Documentation work is not glamorous, but it is massively important! Message maffblaster in #gentoo-wiki if you are interested in aiding in various documentation quests. Word is out that he is eager to mentor contributors...
