I'm proposing this page be deleted because it has nothing to do with gentoo. The device doesnt run gentoo, and the there are no device-specific instructions for getting it working with gentoo.
If any information is to be kept, then the CIFS mounting instructions should be on a generic CIFS page and the rest of the article deleted.

- I agree, the router information should be deleted and the CIFS information should go to a generic CIFS page. — yngwin 14:30, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
- It's now moved to a general Samba page, which obviously needs expansion. — yngwin (wiki admin) (talk) 08:03, 23 August 2012 (UTC)
- Agreed, whoever cifs'ed this page to the max is doing a disservice 666threesixes666 (talk) 06:19, 1 September 2013 (UTC)

Merger with Samba/HOWTO ?
Would it make sense to merge Samba/HOWTO with this document? Or keep the HOWTO separate from the more generic page? The Samba/HOWTO page is the moved document from the gentoo site. --SwifT (talk) 15:56, 22 July 2013 (UTC)
- i think the how to is a good page as it is and should be kept separate. i think cifs should be migrated to cifs and a samba 4 page from scratch should take its place. or a page that points to the others, samba3 samba4 cifs type link index. Samba/HOWTO, [[Samba/Samba4]], [[Samba/Samba3]], & [[Cifs]] type structures suggesting the preferred method, and other choices.666threesixes666 (talk) 04:14, 23 February 2014 (UTC)
Add /run/lock to troubleshooting
I had problems starting daemon: "/etc/init.d/samba start" would print "start-stop-daemon: failed to start `/usr/sbin/smbd'" and same for nmbd. Nothing informative was in syslog and samba logs. It turned out that /run/lock partition was simply full (I did not expect samba to use that much space when allocating). It's a minor thing, but maybe that could be added to troubleshooting section? --UncleTed (talk) 13:50, 05 June 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for the comment. Seems reasonable and could help other people with the same issue. Feel free to add to the troubleshooting section ;). Gentoo_Wiki:Contributor's_guide -- Ris (talk) 10:54, 18 June 2022 (UTC)
