For your information, some history... The complete handbook was an effort that I started back in 2005 or so, trying to create a more resourceful handbook (with more than just installation instructions). It has always lingered in the draft/ location in the gentooo documentation repository, and due to time constraints I had to leave Gentoo for a while. Since the chances of the document getting finished on the official repository are fairly slim, I decided to upload this to the wiki and continue here. This is a massive effort and I greatly appreciate any editors and contributors/authors to add to it.

I will work on the content more in the coming days, so it's definitely not a "let me drop this here and wait" activity ;-) --SwifT 08:14, 30 June 2012 (UTC)

SwifT, thank you for all the effort you have put into this Handbook. I will make it my goal to pick up where you left off. There is some work I need to do before I can get around to it, but I should get to it eventually. It will make a nice late summer project! --Maffblaster (talk) 09:16, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
Appparently this project was completed about five years ago. --Davidbryant (talk) 20:38, 11 August 2020 (UTC)

"... tries to extend on various subjects ..." sounds like a transliteration of a colloquialism in another language. Perhaps, "This handbook provides background on various subjects regarding Linux and the Gentoo Linux operating system." Or perhaps instead of "background" the word should be "context".

And did you mean "questions" when you used "quests"?

Fixed it for you, NeoPhyte. --Davidbryant (talk) 20:53, 11 August 2020 (UTC)

BASEPAGENAME

FYI, in the main namespace there is no apparent difference between a link like [[{{BASEPAGENAME}}/Subpage]] and simply [[/Subpage]], except that the second link is quite a bit simpler looking. In other namespaces, the first way wouldn't work (always points to the main namespace) but the second would still work as expected. So why are we using {{BASEPAGENAME}} in our links? - dcljr (talk) 02:09, 23 September 2015 (UTC)

Why? Because Gentoo Linux users like doing things the hard way, I guess. --Davidbryant (talk) 20:56, 11 August 2020 (UTC)
