Is this not a duplicate effort to Intel_microcode?--Muhlemmer (talk) 20:49, 15 January 2018 (UTC)

No, we are going to replace the AMD/Intel microcode page in favor of a single page. We are just waiting for some pre-requirements (like stable genkernel) before we will do this. --Whissi (talk) 22:53, 15 January 2018 (UTC)

Stable genkernel has been released thanks to your work, Thomas Deutschmann (Whissi) . Is there any way you can update these instructions if any updates are needed? Thank you! --Maffblaster (talk) 06:56, 26 October 2021 (UTC)

`sys-kernel/linux-firmware @BINARY-REDISTRIBUTABLE` could be added into the instruction to save a bit time during install. — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Zafarella (talkcontribs) 11:04, December 3, 2021‎

Zafarella , please gather the confidence to add this suggestion to the wiki article yourself. It is modifiable by all wiki users. Talk pages are reserved for discussions. Thank you. --Maffblaster (talk) 19:23, 3 December 2021 (UTC)

Late microcode loading

Talk status
This discussion is done as of 2023-02-19.

Maybe it should be mentioned that with kernel 6.1 (=current LTS kernel and probably our next stable) late microcode loading is disabled by default. --Pietinger 23:00, 19 February 2023 (UTC)

Sounds reasonable. Feel free to make the change if you know what to put ;). Seems like it would be useful to have what to do about it to get the microcode loaded, post 6.1... Don't worry if you're unsure of language, I'll come give anything a polish up afterwards :). Ris (talk) 05:45, 20 February 2023 (UTC)

Peter B. (Pietinger) , we are thankful for your attention to detail, and that one is lacking. That said, it really creates a lot of extra work for wiki maintainers when community members make requests for changes to documents that they can perform themselves. No need to discuss such things here -- Be more confident and make the change, brother! I'm going to close this discussion now. Kind regards, --Maffblaster (talk) 07:42, 20 February 2023 (UTC)

How to load microcode for distribution kernels

Talk status
This discussion is done as of 2023-09-06.

I can't find info on loading microcode for distribution kernels, here or anywhere else. Anyone know how it should be set up to get the updated microcode when using those kernels ? Ris (talk) 05:48, 20 February 2023 (UTC)

Use either method listed here Microcode#Early_microcode_loading
