Default linking for GRUB should now be GRUB2

Talk status
This discussion is done as of December 12, 2019.

Many years have passed since GRUB2 has been the standard on most distributions as a secondary bootloader. I think it is time that this article be renamed to "GRUB legacy" and "GRUB" becomes the GRUB2 page by default. In order to smoothly execute this change we'll need to fix/review all the linking to verify we correct references to the (to be created) "GRUB legacy" page. We'll then move the currently existing GRUB2 page to here and create a redirect from GRUB2 to GRUB.

Highest priority will be any links in the Handbooks, however I believe all of them should point to GRUB2.

The GRUB legacy package (0.97.x) is no longer available in gentoo.git, which makes this suggested change more than safe. If I don't here anything a week or so I'll execute this change. Kind regards, --Maffblaster (talk) 22:53, 6 November 2019 (UTC)

As Grub (legacy) has gone, why not completely delete this page and then move GRUB2 => GRUB

Although it doesn't exist anymore in gentoo.git, I think it's wise to keep around documentation we have for GRUB Legacy. Of course we should mark it as 'archived' so that readers are aware it's deprecated, but since it was once a widely used/exposed piece of software I think we should keep it. It doesn't cost us much in terms of resources to keep the page available for readers in the future... there still could be some systems booting with GRUB Legacy and it's nice to be able to reference. =) Kind regards, --Maffblaster (talk) 01:54, 4 December 2019 (UTC)

Ok for me. Most of the links seem to be the translations. Should that be left to the translators or could it be done while doing the original (non-translated)? I have no edit access to handbook but I could care for the non-handbook articles.
All non-translation non-Handbook done.--Charles17 (talk) 08:32, 4 December 2019 (UTC)

Great. Thank you Charles17 for the feedback. I'll follow up by looking around tonight to see what else we can/should do. Marking this discussion as resolved. --Maffblaster (talk) 23:21, 4 December 2019 (UTC)

USE flags

The USE flags section is showing the USE flags for grub:2 instead of grub:0. Not sure how to fix this. - dcljr (talk) 04:15, 6 January 2017 (UTC)

This cannot be fixed unless the package.g.o API supports referencing a certain slot. --Maffblaster (talk) 00:02, 4 May 2017 (UTC)
Inserted the info "manually" into the article. - dcljr (talk) 08:28, 12 March 2018 (UTC)
