This is a Talk page - please see the documentation about using talk pages. Add newer comments below older ones, sign comments using four tildes (~~~~), and indent successive comments with colons (:). Add new sections at the bottom of the page, under a heading (== ==). Please remember to mark sections as "open for discussion" using {{talk|open}}, so they will show up in the list of open discussions.
Note
This dwm Wiki is untested and users should make adjustments as need to correct this Wiki.This is due to trying to import info from gentoo-wiki DWM. Importing from gentoo-wiki DWM is complete except for user customizations for user Custom Statuslines and Conky integration. I wrote the majority of the gentoo-wiki DWM page and give people permission to import this information. The majority of info not written by me, has been already implemented below. Patching methods

Talk status
This discussion is done as of 2022-02-19.

Before I make any changes I would be interested in the opinion of others - I think there is merit in explaining the benefits and disadvantages of the two different methods of applying patches - user patches, and custom repository. It isn't yet clear to me which is better (but hopefully will be before I get to the point of editing the content of the page)! --Paulj (talk) 17:16, 19 November 2020 (UTC)

I would say that using an ebuild repository may help if reusing the same configuration on another machine, or sharing it, and that user patches are slightly easier... Not sure apart from that. Did your dwm installation go well in the end ? It would be great if you had any feedback for the wiki ;). -- Kyoreln (talk) 01:15, 12 December 2021 (UTC)

dmenu configuration

Talk status
This discussion is done.

In the dmenu section, it is stated "dmenu's options can be customized during execution using the dwm.h file, such as displaying the menu at the bottom of the display.".

I'm surprised that something at runtime could be changed in a header file. Also, I've heard that suckless software needs to be recompiled to configure it, so I'm guessing this might be a mistake, or at least ambiguously worded.

Does anybody know if this should effectively be clarified ?

Add a Prerequisites Section

Talk status
This discussion is still ongoing.

Would be interesting to exist a Prerequisites Section, like KDEs.

  • Xorg/X Server;
  • elogind session tracker.
