Printers where driverless doesn't work

Talk status
This discussion is still ongoing.

How will CUPS work with printers that support IPP, but the driverless command errors out on some missing sub function? My Brother HL-2280DW is connected on the network, but "driverless" fails to connect to it (some missing security support). I am not going to buy a new printer for as it works fine with Gutenprint now. Maybe I'm missing something but this direction is not viable if it does not support working printers. --Grknight (talk) 15:29, 6 January 2021 (UTC)

My experience with driverless is from a system without dbus and without avahi:
user $driverless
ERROR: Unable to execute ippfind utility: No such file or directory
Did you receive any output from running the following command with your printer's IP number instead?
root #lpadmin -p foobar -E -v ipp://192.168.178.23/ipp -m everywhere

root #lpadmin -p foobar -E -v ipp://192.168.2.25/ipp -m everywhere
lpadmin: Unable to query printer: server-error-version-not-supported
This is what I see yet it claims to support IPP and is enabled. --Grknight (talk) 12:41, 23 January 2021 (UTC)
