On my Gentoo Laptop using kernel 4.4.6 and NetworkManager seems that

<M> Simple USB Network Links (CDC Ethernet subset)
[*] Embedded ARM Linux links (iPaq, ...)
are not needed for Samsung smartphones

Works fine with Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 (android 4.1.2). (I'm too shy to modify the wikipage myself...)
