1. Don't set the background to #FAFAFA
2. Let the user change the background color
Clean up the overall appearance
Improve the accessibility (WCAG)

1. Don't set the default background to #FAFAFA

We might stop setting the default background color to #FAFAFA. Instead the default color of the user agent will be used, which is white most of the time. This way we would:

  • clean up the appearance of our websites, as we are already using elements with a white background on multiple places (for instance packages.g.o on multiple pages, everywhere we use list groups, etc.). Using the default white everywhere means less different colors.
  • improve the accessibility of the page as suggested in G148 of WCAG 2.1 [1], as users might specify the foreground and background colors themselfs using their user agent.

2. Let the user change the background color

To improve the accessibility of the website with respect to Success Criterion 1.4.8 [2] of WCAG 2.1 [3] we might:

  • add a mechanism to let the user change the foreground and background colors
