I use Gentoo Linux on my HP Envy 17 laptop as I like its customizability, speed and how extensive its official repository (the Portage tree) and unofficial repositories (overlays) are. It is second only to Arch Linux in how extensive its repositories are, in my opinion.
My Gentoo installation has been customized, most importantly with:
- git being used to synchronize my local copy of the Portage tree (which is something it shares with my Funtoo install, Funtoo uses git to control the local copy of the Portage tree, by default).
- systemd as its init system, instead of Gentoo's default, OpenRC.
- KDE Plasma 5, as my desktop environment, which is started on boot. This is because
sddm.serviceis enabled (to start on startup) with systemd and my
/etc/sddm.confcauses my user account to autologin. Here is my desktop as of the 14th of April 2017. The wallpaper is from the x11-themes/gentoo-artwork package in the Portage tree.
I have my own website on Linux and other free operating systems, The Hornery.
I also maintain the Vim (app-editors/vim) package (and associated packages like app-editors/vim-core and app-editors/gvim) for Funtoo Linux, along with a few other packages (like app-editors/atom-bin) and keep it up-to-date in my fusion809-overlay.
