Here you will find packages and ebuilds developed in the Emacs Project, which contains GNU Emacs, XEmacs, the corresponding Elisp packages, and eclasses. Being work-in-progress, their functionality cannot be guaranteed.

How to fetch the overlay

Get Layman and Git, configure it:

root # emerge --ask app-portage/layman dev-vcs/git

root # echo "source /usr/portage/local/layman/make.conf" >>/etc/make.conf

Adding the Emacs overlay is then as easy as

root # layman -a emacs

You can then regularly update to the latest reviewed revision:

root # layman -s emacs

How to report bugs

Report bugs concerning packages in the overlay at Gentoo Bugzilla. Mark the Summary line of the bug with [emacs-overlay].

The source code of the packages maintained by the Emacs project as upstream has moved to the Emacs-Tools Git repository.
