I'm not sure why the previous page was deleted as spam, however, I still would like to see an official mastodon account for Gentoo, as well as a matrix room.

Not sure why your first post was removed... Matrix has been on my todo list for a while. I'd like to see the Gentoo infra team host an instance (I may donate hardware / bandwidth for this purpose... As for Mastodon, I haven't created an account yet. The more places we can get Gentoo community the better, IMO. Fragmentation in community sites does not hurt the distributed development of Gentoo. On the contrary, I think it is one reason Gentoo has thrived. Our community members tend to like freedom of choice with more than just their operating system. =) --Maffblaster (talk) 22:16, 16 August 2018 (UTC)

w.r.t. Mastodon, I'd advise taking it slowly. There's been a huge migration to the service this week, possibly more coming, and the larger servers (and mod teams) are overloaded. Scouting for a tech/linux-centric instance (e.g. fosstodon, but there are plenty others) would be a good idea beforehand - Ant P. (talk) 02:32, 17 August 2018 (UTC)

Not sure about what migration you’re speaking about, mastodon.social maybe? Gentoo could also host an instance, mastodon is quite large and difficult to maintain, but something like Pleroma is way more easy and efficient while staying compatible. (btw 2+ pleroma devs are gentoo users, me included, so I’m biased here). And it could also host accounts of developers, like https://bsd.network/ does for *BSD. — Lanodan (talk) 01:29, 15 October 2018 (UTC)

It was one of the flash migrations of angry ex-Twitter users due to some hostile policy change over there, there's been quite a few… anyway, probably not worth worrying over if nobody can recall which one. Things on the network look a lot more reasonable outside of the m.s bubble. :)
A Pleroma server does sound like a better cultural fit for Gentoo, though I might be a bit biased myself after running one - Ant P. (talk) 02:39, 15 October 2018 (UTC)
