Here, --jobs is the option of make, not emerge. Old link: http://wiki.gentoo.org/index.php?title=MAKEOPTS&oldid=4684 Tusooa 09:37, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
- That's what -j5 is in the example, right? In Gentoo's documentation it's always "-jX", not "--jobs=X", so I don't think there's a point of complicating things. I left the part you added about CPUs+1, but other than that - the way I see it - what you added is the same thing as is described above. --Alec 01:05, 18 January 2012 (UTC)
- Oh, yes. That's just the same thing... --Tusooa 01:53, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
Explanation needed for the CPU + 1 rule
I think an explanation for the CPU + 1 rule is needed. For example I always use just the CPU number itself because, as far as I know, each CPU will get a make job. I can't understand the "plus one". Fturco 17:18, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
Broken external link
The following external link results in a 503 Service Unavailable error from my browser: https://www.preney.ca/paul/archives/341.
This is just a note to get rid of it if it doesn't get back online in a reasonable amount of time. Fturco (talk) 10:27, 29 March 2020 (UTC)
- Looks like it's back online... although a bit slow to load. --Maffblaster (talk) 16:29, 12 August 2021 (UTC)
User page can be used as a source
I didn't search for a wiki page, wrote a page on my own and then found MAKEOPTS. If you can use anything from User:Jens3/Compiling big packages for this wiki, then help yourself.
