Describing the emaint sync way with postsync hook

- I see some grammatical errors. And I think there should be a section about automatically updating eix for repos that don't get synced, eg local overlays. Ottre (talk) 20:09, 25 June 2015 (UTC)
- Regarding non-synced overlays: AFAIK eix-update updates all overlays as far you use the new portage mechanism or have PORTDIR_OVERLAY set. Therefore the local overlays are updated whenever the portage tree is updated. If you make local changes to your overlay, than you need to update the cache manually. Maybe i just do not get you use case. Can you please describe this in more detail?

May need revision for Method 1: Using Portage's postsync hook
Better to use /etc/portage/postsync.d/, which is invoked once after all repos are sync-ed, instead of /etc/portage/repo.postsync.d/, according to Project:Portage/Sync#Changes. Also, better to change 'cp -a /var/cache/eix/portage.eix /var/cache/eix/previous.eix;' to 'rsync -ca /var/cache/eix/portage.eix /var/cache/eix/previous.eix;', thus the previous.eix file can survive after multiple execution of eix-update if the newly generated portage.eix is not different.
