Let's formulate some kind of policy for this page. I propose the following:
This page should be a portal style page, giving a short introduction to {{package|sys-apps/portage}} proper. It should then give links branching off into other parts of the wiki, such as [[ebuild repository|overlay]], [[eix]], [[useful portage tools]], configuration stuff, and so on, with maybe a short explanation. Then links to the Handbook and other relevant documentation.

'emerge --sync' vs 'emaint sync'[edit source]
The latest change to this page adds a Note stating:
emerge --sync is now the preferred way to synchronize repositories. See repository synchronization for more information.
but looking at "Ebuild repository" / "Repository synchronization", i don't see anything clearly indicating that emerge --sync should be preferred to emaint sync (and explaining why). In fact, what's said there is:
Repository synchronization is performed with the emaint sync command
What am i missing/misunderstanding? Could someone please clarify?
