VLC
A VLC médialejátszó egy rendkívül népszerű, több platformon futó videólejátszó és streamer. A VLC médialejátszó 2001. februári megjelenése óta gyorsan elérte a világuralomra[1] kitűzött célját.

A VideoLAN szerint be kell állítani bizonyos USE jelölőzászlókat, hogy ne a VLC nagyon lecsupaszított verzióját kapjuk meg.[2] Sok közülük már elavult vagy a kiválasztott profillal már be van állítva.
Online multimédia streamelése
A VLC lehetőséget biztosít a felhasználóknak multimédiás objektumok (Rumble, Vimeo, YouTube, zene stb.) streamelésére. A funkció engedélyezéséhez egyszerűen engedélyezze a lua USE jelölőzászlót. Ha az app-portage/gentoolkit telepítve van (ez erősen ajánlott csomag), akkor egyszerűen csak adja ki ezt a parancsot:
root #euse -E lua -p media-video/vlcA megfelelő konfigurálás és telepítés után a streamek megnyithatók a Média --> Hálózati közvetítés megnyitása... menüpont segítségével. Írjon be URL címeket a népszerű multimédiás webhelyekhez, például a Rumble-hoz, YouTube-hoz vagy más webhelyekhez.
Webm támogatás
A webm egy népszerű videoformátum. Annak érdekében, hogy működjön, engedélyezni kell a vorbis, vpx, és matroska USE jelölőzászlókat.
VLSub
A VLSub egy opcionális lua bővítmény, amellyel automatikusan letöltheti a feliratokat a www.opensubtitles.org webhelyről. Használatához engedélyezni kell a lua és az archive USE jelölőzászlókat.
Emerge
Miután beállította a kívánt USE jelzőzászlókat a kezdeti telepítéshez, az emerge paranccsal telepítse a VLC lejátszót:
root #emerge --ask media-video/vlcHasználat
Alternatív interfészek
A VLC az alapértelmezett GUI felületen kívül több felhasználói interfészt is biztosít. Van egy ncurses-alapú interfész, és egy HTTP interfész, ami streamingre vagy távvezérlésre használható. A VLC wikinek van egy szakasza,amely az alternatív interfészeket ismerteti.
HTTP
A HTTP interfészhez való csatlakozáskor ellenőrizze, hogy be van-e állítva jelszó.
Hagyja üresen a felhasználónév mezőt, amikor beírja a hitelesítő adatokat a weboldalon.
