Vitaly-zdanevich , I think Feriman is right, and making such backups is useless. If something is installed after the backup is made, and then the database is restored from it, portage will not know that the packages were installed, but they will still be present on the system. This will lead to conflicts and security problems (in case the installed software is vulnerable and outdated). And I don't think local.d is the best way to initiate a backup, since not everyone reboots their system. The decision on this revision should also affect the article /var/db/pkg. --Lars Hint (talk) 10:15, 6 September 2024 (UTC)
