Working with Article Blueprints

Talk status
This discussion is done.

I haven't actually created any new articles yet. I'm still learning about the existing content.

I did try following the instructions in this section in a "sandbox" I set up under my own username, and those instructions don't work very well. At least, they don't work well with the "article blueprint" for a Software article -- I haven't tried the other blueprints yet.

Instead of using the {{subst<name>}} template, one needs to copy and paste the portion of the article enclosed within the {{InfoBox}}.

This is the only text from the "article blueprint" really needed when starting a new article.

You can have blank lines and everything

Well, maybe "InfoBox" isn't quite right. But it's close. One of you admin guys can probably figure out what I ought to say more quickly than I can -- the article blueprints are edit-protected, so I can't easily suss out the internal coding y'all used. --Davidbryant (talk) 19:02, 1 August 2020 (UTC)

That trouble might be caused by the last four edits I did there. I have to admit it would require the article templates to be modified with "no-include" instructions for comments. And, I am not sure if other users would be comfortable with what I think would be best.
At least, this way can be used for moving matured articles from private to main space. (By simply moving, the article would never get listed in the "Fresh documentation" section.) See my User:Charles17/cheat_sheet#Moving_articles_to_main_space --Charles17 (talk) 03:50, 4 August 2020 (UTC)
This discussion doesn't apply anymore. Gentoo Wiki:Article Blueprints/Software doesn't contain the InfoBox you quoted, and articles created with {{subst:Gentoo Wiki:Article Blueprints/Software}} look reasonable.
After submitting an edit containing {{subst:Gentoo Wiki:Article Blueprints/Software}}, you can create another edit, which will now allow you to modify the template. If you don't think a section would ever be useful, you can remove it. If you think one might be useful in the future, you can comment it out with <!-- and -->, so new contributors can know where to put the info without having to look at the blueprint.
